Detailed Itinerary

Day 1: Athens

Today you arrive in Athens. Upon arrival at Athens International Airport, you will be transferred to your hotel, located in Plaka or a nearby area. The afternoon is at leisure, so you can relax before taking your first walk through the city.

Stroll through the old neighbourhood of Plaka or enjoy some shopping along Ermou Street. Later, return to your hotel for your first overnight in Athens.

Day 2: Athens

After breakfast, your Athens city tour begins by coach with a guide. During the tour, you will visit the Acropolis, the Parthenon, the Acropolis Museum and the Theatre of Dionysus. Overnight in Athens. (B)

Day 3: Athens – Epidaurus – Nafplio – Mycenae – Olympia

Depart Athens at 08:30 and travel west along the scenic coast. You will cross the Corinth Canal before continuing towards Epidaurus, Nafplio and Mycenae. Theatre of Epidaurus ↗

At Epidaurus, visit the remarkably preserved ancient theatre, celebrated for its exceptional acoustics. UNESCO also describes the Theatre of Epidaurus as renowned for its architectural proportions and exemplary acoustics. Afterward, continue to Nafplio for a short stop. The city played an important role in the early years of the modern Greek state and adds another chapter of Greek history to the journey.

Next, travel to Mycenae, the legendary kingdom associated with Agamemnon and a defining centre of the civilization that came to be known as Mycenaean. In the afternoon, depart for Olympia, where dinner will be served before your overnight stay. (B, D)

Day 4: Olympia – Delphi

Begin the day in Olympia, the celebrated sanctuary of ancient Greece dedicated to Zeus, set in a green landscape near the Alpheios and Kladeos rivers. Olympia is where the ancient Olympic Games were born, a tradition that began in honour of Zeus and became one of the great festivals of the ancient Greek world..
Olympia became one of Greece’s most important religious and athletic centres. UNESCO identifies the sanctuary as a major centre of Zeus worship and records the ancient Olympic Games there from 776 BC.

Visit the archaeological site and museum. Afterward, travel via Patras to Rio and cross the Rio–Antirrio Bridge. From there, continue through Nafpaktos to Delphi, where dinner will be served before your overnight stay. (B, D)

Day 5: Delphi – Kalambaka

At the foot of Mount Parnassos lies Delphi, the Pan-Hellenic sanctuary renowned for the oracle of Apollo. In the ancient Greek world, Delphi was regarded as the centre, or omphalos, of the world.

For centuries, the sanctuary was an important religious and cultural centre and the setting of the Pythian Games. During your visit, explore the archaeological site and museum, where the celebrated bronze Charioteer of Delphi is among the treasures on display.

After completing your visit, depart for Kalambaka. On arrival, enjoy a short visit to the town before dinner and your overnight stay. (B, D)

Day 6: Kalambaka – Meteora – Athens

Today, visit Meteora, one of Greece’s most distinctive landscapes. Its name conveys the sense of being “suspended in the air,” while historically 24 monasteries were built among its dramatic rock formations. In earlier centuries, access to the monasteries was difficult. Nets raised by rope and hand-operated windlasses, as well as long retractable wooden ladders, connected the monastic communities with the valleys below. Over time, each community developed its own resources, while the Grand Meteoron emerged as the dominant community by the end of the 14th century.

Meteora is today recognised as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. After the visit, begin the drive back to Athens. Along the way, stop at Thermopylae for a photo at the Monument of King Leonidas, who fought against the Persians with his 300 Spartans.

Finally, arrive in Athens at around 19:00 for your last overnight in Greece. (B)

Day 7: Athens

After breakfast, your 7-day Classical Tour of Greece comes to an end. You will be transferred from your hotel to Athens International Airport for your departure. From the monuments of Athens and the ancient sites of the Peloponnese to Delphi and Meteora, the journey has traced centuries of Greek history and legend.
