Frequently Asked Questions About Yacht Charter in Greece
What is a private yacht charter in Greece?
A private yacht charter allows your family, friends or group to reserve the entire vessel exclusively. You will not share the yacht with unrelated travellers.
The crew, itinerary and onboard arrangements are organized for your group, subject to the vessel’s specifications, weather conditions and the captain’s final approval.
How is a yacht charter different from a cabin cruise?
With a private yacht charter, your group reserves the whole vessel. This offers greater privacy and more flexibility when planning the route, meals and daily rhythm.
With a cabin cruise, you reserve one cabin and share the yacht and scheduled itinerary with other travellers. The two products offer very different experiences and pricing structures.
Are the yachts fully crewed?
Yes. The yachts currently featured by Vikings Navita are crewed vessels. Depending on the yacht, the crew may include a captain, sailors, a chef, stewards and other personnel.
The number of crew members and the services they provide vary according to the yacht.
Do we need sailing experience?
No. These are professionally crewed yacht charters, so guests are not required to navigate or operate the vessel.
The captain and crew are responsible for navigation, safety and the operation of the yacht, leaving your group free to enjoy the islands and life on board.
What sizes of private yachts are available?
The yachts accommodate groups of different sizes. Smaller traditional wooden yachts may welcome approximately 10 to 19 guests, while larger vessels such as M/S Galileo and M/S Panorama can accommodate around 49 passengers.
The correct yacht will depend on your group size, preferred style, cabin requirements and budget.
Can we customize our yacht charter itinerary?
Yes. The route can usually be planned around your preferred region, islands, interests and embarkation point.
However, the itinerary cannot be guaranteed exactly. The captain has final responsibility for navigation and may adjust the route because of weather, sea conditions, port restrictions, safety requirements, distances or the yacht’s return schedule.
Which regions of Greece can we explore?
Depending on the yacht, season and embarkation point, possible cruising regions may include the Cyclades, Saronic Gulf, Sporades, Evia, Ionian Islands and parts of the Peloponnese coastline.
Some yachts also offer one-way itineraries, such as a charter beginning on an island and ending near Athens. Availability must be checked for the selected dates.
How long does a yacht charter normally last?
Many yacht charters operate for seven nights, often from Friday to Friday or Saturday to Saturday. Boarding and disembarkation times depend on the vessel and itinerary.
Shorter or longer charters may occasionally be possible, subject to availability and the yacht owner’s conditions.
When is the best time to charter a yacht in Greece?
The main yacht-charter season generally runs from spring to autumn. Some of the traditional yachts currently shown operate from May to October, with different cruising regions according to the month.
For example, a yacht may operate in the Cyclades during early and late season but move to the Sporades or Ionian Islands during July and August.
What is included in the charter price?
Inclusions vary significantly between yachts.
Depending on the vessel and quotation, the price may include exclusive use of the yacht, crew, insurance, fuel for the agreed itinerary, accommodation on board, VAT, Wi-Fi, selected meals and drinks. Other yachts may quote some operating expenses separately.
Your final proposal will list every included and excluded service clearly.
Are meals and drinks included?
Meal arrangements depend on the yacht.
Selected traditional yachts include half-board, usually breakfast and one main meal each day. On other vessels, food and beverages may be quoted separately or arranged according to your group’s preferences.
Are fuel and port fees included?
Not always. Some yacht packages include fuel for an agreed itinerary, while others calculate fuel and operating expenses separately. Port, marina and harbour fees may also be included or charged in addition to the charter price.
These costs depend on the yacht, route, cruising distance and ports visited.
What are the cabins like?
Cabin size, configuration and facilities vary considerably between yachts. Depending on the vessel, cabins may have double beds, twin beds, additional bunks, private bathrooms, portholes or windows and air conditioning.
Can children join a private yacht charter?
Families may charter many of the yachts shown, but suitability depends on the children’s ages, the vessel, cabin arrangement, itinerary and onboard safety features.
Please provide the ages of all children when requesting a proposal so that the yacht operator can confirm capacity and suitability before booking.
How much does it cost to charter a yacht in Greece?
The price depends on the yacht, season, number of nights, itinerary, embarkation port, group size, meals and operating expenses. A personalized quotation is necessary before the total cost can be confirmed.
Can you arrange services before and after the charter?
Yes. We’ll be happy to assist with accommodation, airport and port transfers, private tours, guided excursions, dining arrangements and other travel services before or after your yacht charter.
